Industrial research clusters congratulate new Minister of the Economy and Innovation

Montreal, October 19, 2018 – The sector-based industrial research clusters (RSRI) congratulate the new Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, and assure him and the entire government of their full and active collaboration to stimulate the link between academic research and innovative businesses in Quebec.

Representing Quebec’s flagship sectors, the RSRIs are in a strong position to help achieve the objectives of the new government, and to support Quebec’s economic fabric in its quest for growth. The nine (9) clusters have been designated by the Quebec government to act as intermediation and funding organizations for collaborative research and development (R&D). As catalysts of innovation, they have been successfully promoting knowledge transfer and technological appropriation by companies in various strategic sectors of the economy for many years, by encouraging the emergence of links between the research community and industry.

Backed by their structured networks and in-depth knowledge of their respective sectors, over the past three years alone they have helped to generate $150 million in industrial R&D investment in more than 371 supported projects. These projects have helped generate significant spin-offs for Quebec, in terms of employment, student training, patent filings, licensing, technology commercialization, spin-off creation and industrial investment, to name but a few.
