Announcement
Montréal, December 10th, 2024 – CQDM is pleased to announce the funding of a collaborative research project between Novatek International and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). The collaboration will leverage the expertise of NRC researchers, Vincent Gagnon Shaigetz and Nushi Choudhury, in virtual reality software development for cognitive health. Together, the project team will develop a new therapeutic solution that is easy to use and allows for remote care to treat mild cognitive impairments. Funding for this project is made possible thanks to a $66,526 grant from the Government of Quebec awarded by CQDM and $99,789 in financial support from Novatek International.
As the population ages, an increasing number of adults will develop cognitive impairments, which will pose significant challenges in terms of care. Identifying innovative solutions to meet growing needs is essential. This technological development project aims to validate in a real-world care setting a new therapeutic solution for mild cognitive impairment, the Novatek VR, a turnkey virtual reality device that combines a screening tool and a personalized therapeutic tool through targeted exercises. Two pilot studies to simulate the use of the Novatek VR at home will be conducted to complete the final stages of technology development before marketing. The results obtained will allow Novatek International, a Montreal-based company specializing in global software solutions and health technologies, to add this high value-added product to its service offering. Novatek VR has the potential to revolutionize patient care through its ability to transmit patient data remotely, facilitating access to care, especially in remote areas, and optimizing the work of doctors.
“If there is one area where virtual simulation is beneficial, it is life sciences. Collaborative research between businesses and research organizations can really boost technological innovation in that field. We are proud to support such an impactful solution poised to improve the quality of care for Quebecers,” said Christopher Skeete, Minister for the Economy, Minister Responsible for the Fight Against Racism and Minister Responsible for the Laval Region.
“Novatek International’s technology represents a major advance in our ability to develop innovative solutions in virtual medicine, in particular to overcome a widespread challenge in Quebec: the difficulty of accessing care. By making diagnosis and treatment more accessible, this technology accelerates the development of treatments tailored to unmet medical needs”, says Diane Gosselin, President and CEO of CQDM.
