POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a performance-driven Chief Accountant to manage and improve the financial functions of our organization in collaboration with the Senior Director, Accounting & Finance. Specifically, we are looking for a Chief Accountant to:
- Manage accounting functions, reporting, treasury, internal controls and contract compliance.
- Establish internal control policies and procedures, in line with best practices for an organization of our size and complexity, while seeking opportunities to optimize the organization’s productivity and efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all financial data required for accurate and efficient accounting of the organization’s results.
- Provide compliant financial analysis and reporting, particularly as required for the organization’s audited statements.
- Calculate and communicate to management the organization’s performance measures and other information essential to their decision-making process and performance monitoring.
- Lead the budget process with management and monitor and prepare forecasts.
- Participate in cash flow management and investments.
- Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting functions (full cycle), including management and supervision of payroll, accounts payable and supplier negotiations, accounts receivable and collections, and project-related disbursements.
- Manage contracts, in particular compliance with contractual obligations.
- Produce income and sales tax returns, reports and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain and implement strong internal controls.
- Evaluate and implement new tools and procedures to optimize the organization’s productivity and efficiency.
- Participate in the development and support of the organization’s strategic plans and objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in accounting or business administration.
- At least 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with external audit processes (an asset).
- Professional accounting designation, CPA (an asset).
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent knowledge of accounting fundamentals and standards, especially in financial reporting.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent ability to work as part of a team.
- Autonomy, proactivity and ability to integrate into a small, agile organization.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Attention to detail and compliance.
- Proficiency in Excel software, particularly in combining functions to create complex workbooks.
- Excellent knowledge of technology, with good knowledge of accounting software and other miscellaneous media.
- Good knowledge of databases (i.e. QuickBase) and SAGE accounting software (an asset).
