Bio

Jesse Paterson joined CQDM in October 2019 as Senior Director of Business Development. He has been working in the Canadian life sciences sector for almost 20 years and has invaluable experience in the private sector, as well as in public-private initiatives. His expertise covers a variety of areas, including oncology, the CNS, rare illnesses, and glycomics, making him a huge asset for CQDM.

In 2000, Jesse was among the founders of Xanthus Pharmaceuticals who successfully funded and launched this business from McGill University. In 2009, his work at Angiochem led him to find potential partners and negotiate collaboration agreements and partnerships. He also participated in settling agreements, including the sale of a phase 1 asset in the field of oncology, as well as two research agreements with pharmaceutical partners. Before joining CQDM, he was Director of Business Development at GlycoNet, a project funded by Networks of Centres of Excellence. For this project, he gathered $3 M in funding from strategic partners and $20 M in matched funds during project renewal.

Jesse has a baccalaureate in biochemistry from Concordia University and a Master’s degree in experimental medicine from McGill University.

Jessie plays an essential role at CQDM as Senior Director of Business Development. His mission consists of developing close relationships with members of the pharmaceutical industry, identifying new projects, and promoting innovative initiatives proposed by pharmaceutical partners. He also facilitates interactions between these actors and the Canadian ecosystem, thus promoting collaboration and information-sharing.

In addition to his role managing relationships with pharmaceutical members, Jesse also oversees investments at CQDM. His expertise allows him to assess investment opportunities and support the most promising projects. Among his remarkable achievements, Jesse contributed to creating the Neomabs Biotechnologies business and sits on the board of directors as a member. His leadership and commitment to innovation have largely contributed to strengthening CQDM’s position as a major catalyst for research and development in the Canadian life sciences field.

Jesse is passionate about sports and a real golf and hockey enthusiast. He’s always up for a game with colleagues. He’s always on the lookout for new challenges on the golf course or the skating rink! Jesse loves cooking and sharing his culinary creations with his family.
