POSITION SUMMARY
As Vice-President*, Partnerships & Business Development, you will serve as a key strategic leader and catalyst for growth within CQDM. In this high-impact role, you will be responsible for driving national and international partnerships, expanding and diversifying CQDM’s funding streams, and positioning the organization within the ecosystem for long-term growth and sustainability.
Collaborating closely with the President and CEO, you will play a central role on the leadership team, contributing to CQDM’s mission of accelerating innovation and supporting the success of biopharmaceutical companies, researchers, and key stakeholders across the Quebec and Canadian life sciences ecosystems.
*The position level will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate
LOCATION
This position is open to candidates located in Quebec and requires availability for national and international travel (15-25%).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and oversee the business development and strategic initiatives teams to drive growth and impact.
- Identify, develop, and secure new funding opportunities, partnerships, and strategic initiatives aligned with the needs of Quebec and Canada’s life sciences ecosystem.
- Provide strategic support to the CEO in fostering and sustaining strong relationships with federal and provincial governments to advance key initiatives.
- Position CQDM as a key player by promoting its mission to major international corporations, Canadian companies, the research community, funding organizations, and other influential stakeholders in the life sciences sector.
- Represent CQDM at high-profile conferences and industry events to enhance its leadership and strengthen its national and international presence.
- Establish a strategic framework and oversee the management of CQDM’s investments to ensure sustainable growth and impact.
- Stay ahead of industry trends by monitoring emerging practices, innovations, and future priorities in biopharmaceutical R&D.
REQUIREMENTS & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- PhD or MSc in a discipline related to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
- 10+ years of experience in business development, funding program management, or leadership of large-scale biopharmaceutical research initiatives.
- Recognized for strong, inspirational leadership and the ability to mobilize and guide dynamic teams.
- Demonstrated success in forging and cultivating strategic partnerships.
- Strong ability to understand scientific concepts in therapeutic areas aligned with the needs of major pharma and biotech companies.
- Extensive network within the Canadian biopharmaceutical sector and deep understanding of the Canadian research and innovation landscape (academic and industrial).
- Proven track record developing government relations and securing public funding, considered a strong asset.
- Deep understanding of the federal and provincial key innovation policies and priorities considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with venture capital and investment environments, with a strong track record in securing and managing investments, considered a strong asset.
- Fluent bilingualism in English and French (spoken and written).
