Diane Gosselin

Ph. D., MBA, ASC
President and CEO

An accomplished scientist and leader, Diane Gosselin has been very involved in the financing of innovative biomedical research for over 25 years. Since 2012, she is President and Chief Executive Officer of CQDM, she worked on the inception of CQDM when she joined the company in 2008 as Vice President, Research and Business Development. In fulfilling her mandate at CQDM, Diane Gosselin has demonstrated the relevance and value of CQDM’s model by building an impressive portfolio of over 90 outstanding technologies that impact biopharmaceutical research ($100M committed), engaging a national network of over 2000 researchers from 100 research institutions  across Canada. She has raised over $80M in funding from 14 of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, as well as from the Governments of Quebec and Canada. Moreover, she has been actively expanding CQDM’s reach and vision across Canada and internationally.

 

Before joining CQDM, Diane Gosselin worked for the Fonds de solidarité FTQ (2003-2008) where she helped several companies implement their drug development strategy. In addition, she actively contributed to a strategic initiative designed to stimulate innovation in the life sciences sector. Also, at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, she managed an investment portfolio of approximately $40M and evaluated more than 100 investment projects in several life sciences sectors. She also worked at PROCREA BioSciences where she led the research team that developed the first worldwide non-invasive diagnostic test for endometriosis. The test was later acquired by Diagnostic Product Corporation. She also developed the world’s largest tissue bank for endometriosis research (10 hospitals, 60 gynecologists, 4500 subjects), which was also acquired by Diagnostic Product Corporation.

 

Diane Gosselin currently sits on the Board of Montreal lnVivo, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Genomics, CATALIS Quebec and CQDM. She has also Chaired the Board of Directors of CATALIS Quebec (2017-2019) and was a Board member of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) (2018-2019), BIOTECanada (2014-2017), CQIB (2014-2016), Cardianove and Oceanova Biotechnologies (2005-2008). Diane Gosselin was also involved in technology maturation, including in her role as a Board member of the Bio-Innovation Funds (2005-2008).

 

Diane Gosselin holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from Université de Montréal, as well as an Executive MBA from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Université Paris-Dauphine. More recently, she completed a university certification program in Corporate Governance from Université Laval.

Véronique Dugas

Ph. D, MBA
Vice President, Scientific Affairs

Véronique Dugas joined the CQDM in June 2018 as Director, Fonds d’accélération des collaborations en santé. She previously worked for nearly seven years at Mitacs where she focused on research funding and collaborations between public and industrial partners. She started as Project Manager with the team responsible for developing peer review evaluation of applications processes and was later given the opportunity to set up the organization’s Evaluation Department. In collaboration with Mitacs stakeholders, she developed performance review benchmarks for programs, including a performance monitoring toolbox to measure expected and unexpected impacts for participants. She was further promoted to the position of Director, Evaluation before leaving the organization.

 

Véronique was awarded a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montreal in 2011. During her career as a scientist, she focused on immunotolerance mechanisms and genetic risk factors for autoimmune pathologies, including Type 1 diabetes. Afterward, she earned a Science and Engineering MBA at ESG UQAM, before pursuing her academic training as the first student from UQAM to complete a Short Graduate Program in Program, Projects and Services Evaluation.

Jesse Paterson

Senior Director, Business Development

Jesse Paterson is CQDM’s Senior Director, Business Development. Jesse brings valuable knowledge of the private sector and of private-public initiatives with close to 20 years in Canada’s life sciences ecosystem. Jesse has experience in a variety of fields, including oncology, CNS, rare diseases and glycomics bringing a great breadth of experience to CQDM.
 
In 2000, Jesse was part of the founding team that successfully funded and spun out Xanthus Pharmaceuticals from McGill University. In 2009, Jesse joined Angiochem, to identify potential partners and negotiate partnering/collaboration agreements. He participated in the closure of deals including out-licensing of a phase 1 oncology asset and two research collaborations with pharmaceutical partners. Most recently, he served as Director of Business Development for GlycoNet, a Network of Centers of Excellence where he generated $3M in strategic partner funding projects between researchers and industry and secured $20M in matching funding commitments for the network’s renewal.
 
Jesse has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Concordia University and an M.Sc. in Experimental Medicine from McGill University.

Alysia Melnychuk

CPA
Senior Director, Finance and Accounting

Alysia Melnychuk joined CQDM in October of 2022, as Senior director of accounting and finance. She started her career as a young entrepreneur, opening a small business in 2003 selling handmade soaps, turned into a full-fledged business offering workshops and supplies for the soap and cosmetic DIYer. With over 20 employees by 2016, the company grew thanks to her leadership, creativity, intuition, and natural talent for business. Choosing to formalize her business education, Alysia returned to school in 2013 to pursue a bachelor’s in accounting and went on to complete her CPA.

Alysia previously led the finance and administration team at Santé Cannabis, a medical cannabis research clinic focusing on improving the health and wellbeing of medical cannabis patients, by conducting real-world research and providing clinic trial services to both pharma and medical cannabis business. Her unique set of skills helped Santé Cannabis to identify needs and risks of the organisation, bring novel ideas and solutions, while strategizing with colleagues on the best path forward. This led to implanting project management tools and operational changes, ultimately improving the efficiency of services and success of projects. She left Santé Cannabis as VP of Finance and Administration.

Carl Baillargeon

Senior Director - Communications and Marketing

Carl Baillargeon joined CQDM in June 2023 as Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. He held the position of Ambassador – Life Sciences, Health Technologies and Innovation for the UIG Group, a very active and influential organization ensuring the consolidation of the ecosystems of life sciences and health technologies (SVTS) and innovation in Quebec and Canada.

Carl Baillargeon has also been very involved in the real estate of chemistry/biology laboratories and political field of many levels, offering a constructive solution for the infrastructures needed in LSHT in Canada. He has held many senior positions in strategic communications, public relations, branding, marketing, and image building for many leading companies/organizations in the fields of LSHT, innovation, healthcare, optometry, AgTech, biotech, cleantech and other high value-added sectors. A recognized multilingual speaker to diverse local, regional, national, and international audiences, Mr. Baillargeon also holds strategic positions on several boards of directors and committees.

He holds a Graduate Diploma (second cycle) from McGill University as well as a bachelor’s degree in business administration – marketing specialization from HEC Montreal. He has also perfected his knowledge of digital marketing through various programs of academic institutions and regularly gives seminars, trainings, and advanced developments to various professional groups.

Mathieu Paquette

Director, Business Development

Mathieu Paquette joined the CQDM team in October 2021 as Director, Business Development. Prior to his arrival, Mathieu worked as an evaluator at Health Canada where he was involved in the review and authorization of clinical trials. Previously, he also acted as a consultant for a biotechnology start-up company during the preparation of a phase I clinical trial. Mathieu also worked for 3 years as a technology transfer intern at the Office of Innovation and Partnerships of McGill University.

Mathieu holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University. His research has focused on the regulation of autophagy and lysosomes and their implications in cancer, obesity and neurodegenerative diseases. Mathieu jointly completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Laval University.

Simon Fournier

M.Sc., MBA
Associate, Business development

Simon Fournier joined CQDM in October 2022 as Associate, Business Development. Prior to his arrival, Simon worked as a clinical research assistant in a laboratory at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) which focuses on rare neurological diseases affecting the pediatric population. He also acted as a study coordinator of clinical trials in partnership with pharmaceutical / biotechnology companies. Previously, he also worked at the Center for Advanced Research in Sleep Medicine (CARSM) at the Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal (HSCM) where he was involved in various research projects on the genetics of sleep disorders.

Simon holds a bachelor’s degree (2017) and a master’s degree (2020) in neuroscience from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montreal. His research has focused on the study of genetic factors in the pathophysiology of sleepwalking. In 2022, Simon completed a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from ESG UQAM.

Fanny Guimont-Desrochers

Director, Scientific Affairs

Fanny Guimont-Desrochers joined CQDM in January 2023 as Director of Scientific Affairs. Before joining the team, Fanny held the position of Director of Investments and Health Promotion at the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. Together with her team, she has developed and managed research investments, support programs, and education and awareness initiatives.
She also has more than 10 years of academic and private research, including working as a preclinical research scientist at Charles River Laboratories. She evaluated the efficacy and safety of new drugs. In addition, she served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute and held an international postdoctoral research position at the National Institutes of Health.

Fanny holds a doctorate in microbiology and immunology granted by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montreal in 2013. Her research work focused on the genetic and functional study of Interferon-producing Killer Dendritic Cells, white blood cells with strong antitumor potential. During her studies, she was the recipient of several scholarships and awards of excellence, in addition to having presented her research results at numerous national and international conferences.

Alexandre Morizot

Business Development Director

Alexandre Morizot joined CQDM in June 2021 as Project Manager in Scientific Affairs. He was previously a project manager at a contract research organization (CRO) where he participated in the development of new drugs by coordinating the bioanalysis required for clinical and pre-clinical studies.

Alexandre holds a PhD in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, awarded by the University of Burgundy in 2010. During his scientific career, Alexandre specialized in the mechanisms of cell death and inflammation in different pathologies such as cancer, celiac disease or Crohn’s disease.

Rebeca Baca-Diaz

Project Manager, Fonds d'accélération des collaborations en santé

Rebeca Baca-Díaz joined the CQDM team as Project Manager, Fonds d’accélération des collaborations en santé in June of 2018. Rebeca brings to the CQDM more than 15 years of solid experience working with non-profit organizations in the management and rigorous monitoring of scientific projects. She ensures the implementation and appropriate management of research grant programs at the national and provincial levels, funded by the federal and provincial governments. Before joining the CQDM, Rebeca was responsible for managing Mitacs’ flagship national programs (Accelerate and Elevate), where she also put in place, through her expertise, processes for the strategic initiatives in development.

Previously, she held the position of Bilingual Program Manager at the Agricultural Adaptation Council, providing grants in the agriculture, agri-food and food processing sectors in Ontario, in partnerships with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Environment Canada. Rebeca obtained a B.Sc. in nutrition and food science in Mexico, before graduating with her Masters’ degree in Food Science and Technology at Laval University in Quebec City.

Marina Luginina

Project Manager, Scientific Affairs

Marina Luginina joined the CQDM team in May 2023 as Project Manager in Scientific Affairs. Prior to this role, she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biological & Biomedical Engineering at McGill University. Her field of research interest was focused on the development of a novel encapsulation strategy for cell transplantation in patients with Type 1 Diabetes. Additionally, she took on the position of Chair at the McGill Association of Postdoctoral Researchers.

Marina holds a Ph. D. degree in Innovation Science and Technologies awarded by the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the University of Cagliari, Italy. Her doctoral thesis was aimed at the development of advanced materials for hard and soft tissue engineering. Throughout her scientific career, she also completed several international research internships in various academic institutions in France and Germany.

Furthermore, Marina currently serves as the Board Executive Secretary at Women in Bio, organization of professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership, and entrepreneurship for all women in the life sciences.

Sandra Constantin

Program Manager and EDI Manager

Sandra Constantin joined the CQDM team in June 2021 as Project Manager, Scientific Affairs. She was previously a postdoctoral researcher in medicinal chemistry at the Sherbrooke Pharmacology Institute of the Université de Sherbrooke.

Sandra holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, awarded by the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iasi, Romania, in 2016. Her multidisciplinary research topic was aimed at the synthesis of new organic molecules, their use in the development of new delivery systems, as well as the study of their activity in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. At the same university, Sandra also held a position as an assistant professor in the department of pharmaceutical chemistry for 5 years. During her scientific career, she also completed several international research internships in various academic laboratories in France and Japan.

Morgane Regniez

Project Manager, Scientific Affairs

Morgane Regniez joined CQDM in May 2023 as Project Manager – Scientific Affairs. Previously, Morgane held the position of Senior Research Advisor in the laboratory of Dr. Louis De Beaumont, affiliated with the Université de Montréal and the CIUSSS-NIM Research Centre. Her research interests focused on concussions, the general goal of the laboratory’s research work being to prevent and reverse their effects in the short, medium and long term.

Having started her studies in France, Morgane holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, a Master 1 in neurosciences and neuropsychopharmacology and a Master 2 in international neurosciences from the Université de Bordeaux. Arrived in Canada in 2018, Morgane holds a doctorate in neurosciences from the Université de Montréal since November 2021. Her research work, supervised by Dr. Marina Martinez and Dr. Valérie Mongrain, focused on the behavioral, electrophysiological and histological characterization of a new animal model of concurrent spinal and brain injury.

Several scholarships and presentation prizes were awarded to her during her doctorate. During her graduate studies, she was also a lecturer for Bachelor courses (1st cycle) and was involved in several committees (eg: organization of scientific events).

Catherine-Alexandra Grégoire

Project Manager, Scientific Affairs

Catherine-Alexandra Grégoire joined CQDM in October 2023 as Project Manager, Scientific Affairs. Before joining the team, she held the position of research associate at the EPIC Centre of the Montreal Heart Institute. Her research focused on the impact of an healthy and active lifestyle to help prevent cognitive decline associated with aging and cardiovascular diseases.

Catherine-Alexandra holds a Ph.D. in pathology and cell biology, option nervous system, awarded by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montreal in 2016. The general objective of her thesis was to investigate the mechanisms underlying activation of neural stem cells in the adult central nervous system. In parallel to her Ph.D., she completed a certificate in management at McGill University.

Catherine-Alexandra completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical sciences under the supervision of Dr. Louis Bherer at the research center of the Montreal Heart Institute from 2016 to 2019. Her project consisted of investigating the impact of different types of physical activity on neurotrophic factors. In September 2023, she completed a clinical research professionals certification program from the CRA school of Montreal.

Annie Bernier

Project Manager, Scientific Affairs

Annie joined CQDM in October 2023 as Project Manager, Scientific Affairs.

Before joining the team, Annie spent over 2 years in Paris where she worked as a laboratory manager at the Institut Curie, a cancer research and treatment center. Her area of research focused on immune cell dynamics in solid tumors and cancer immunotherapy strategies modulating the tumor microenvironment.

Passionate about teaching, Annie also acted as a trainer at CellCarta and held several teaching assistant positions at the University of Montreal and McGill University.

Annie holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from McGill University. Her work under the supervision of Selena Sagan, Ph.D focused on the interaction of hepatitis C virus RNA with cellular factors promoting viral replication.

Aren Bezdjian

Ph. D.
Manager, Special Projects

Aren Bezdjian joined CQDM in August 2023 as Manager, Special Projects. Prior to his arrival, Aren worked as Senior Clinical Research Manager at the Montreal Neurological Institute and for Oticon Medical. With his teams, he developed and led clinical trials for medical devices and pharmaceutical therapies.

Aren holds a Master’s degree in Otolaryngology (2016) and a Doctorate in Experimental Surgery (2020) from McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine. In 2023, Aren completed a Certificate in Healthcare Leadership at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Dorothy Josué

Chief accountant

Dorothy Josué joined CQDM in August 2023 as Chief Accountant. Prior to her arrival, Dorothy was an accountant with Domtar in corporate accounting. She also began her career as an assistant accountant with a Quebec family business.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from the Université de Montréal, Dorothy continued her studies in accounting at HEC Montréal to earn her CPA designation. In 2023, she completed a graduate microprogram in Management, also at HEC Montréal. In 2024, she will begin an MBA at ESG UQAM.

Dorothy is also currently Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Sayaspora, a platform whose primary mission is the emancipation of women from the African diaspora.

Sandrine Campeau

Administrative Manager

Sandrine Campeau joined CQDM in December 2022 as Administrative Coordinator where she supports the management team with various needs in administration and finance for the organization. Sandrine is recognized for strong work ethic, efficiency, and multitasking ability. She also brings to CQDM over 15 years of project management, administration, and operational experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Walande Corrier

Accounting Analyst

Walande Corrier joined the CQDM Finance and Accounting team in January 2024 as an Accounting Analyst. Shortly after his bachelor’s degree in accounting, in 2015, he launched into entrepreneurship by setting up his own company providing services in the areas of project management, digital communication and the implementation of accounting systems.

Considering his aspirations for leadership and motivation, Walande enrolled in a Leadership Certification program organized by Robin Sharma. He obtained his certification in October 2015, in Toronto. In 2017, he wrote and published a book entitled The Ideal of Motivation and participated in several book fairs in Quebec as a signature author.

Between 2014 and 2023, Walande held various positions in accounting which allowed him to develop specific skills as an accounting analyst.
